From the BCPS Office of Gifted and Talented Education:

".....The Office of Gifted Education provides vision, leadership, expertise and technical assistance for parents, schools and curriculum offices regarding the development, implementation and enhancement of curricular and instructional services that support students who perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. It is the commitment of this office that these students have access, support and opportunities that are continuous and systematic and are optimally matched to their potential."

 

Scheduled:

  • Sept. 2011---Letters go to parents/families informing them of students who are taking GT classes 
  • Oct. 2011---Update and review GT student placements and make recommendations 
  • Oct. - Nov. 2011---8th grade Magnet School Applications process
  • Nov. 2011---Begin writing and math sample process for GT student files 
  • Dec. 2011---6th Parents/families are invited to "meet and greet" the GT program teachers/facilitators in the LMC---Light refreshments served by students.
  • Jan. -- March 2012---Continue updating GT student files.  Notices go out at the end of the month for GT students with grades below "C".
  • April 2012---Accept applications and recommendations for GT student placement.
  • May 11, 2012---GT Spring Articulation of incoming 6th grade GT students for Aug. 2012:
